A balanced palette for indulgence and recollection. SS23 color choices reflect the spirit of an industry that is liberating an entire gender from its restricting codes and opening it up to new possibilities. Bold colors are certainly leading the way with nearly 800 looks on the season’s runways, but new interesting subtle colors are popping through across the runway. Those colors show a distinct desire for sophistication without sacrificing on color impact. As menswear is embracing cross-gender colors, saturated pink represents one of the top colors by visibility and hues of a purposefully desaturated dusty rose proposes the season’s eye-catcher with a highly sophisticated allure.
Green is still fashion color number one by visibility, but begins to be represented in a more abstract palette that looks at a new petrols and dusty sage. As for womenswear, the menswear palette also embraces ocean-driven color-stories, from a hyper-saturated supersonic blue for a metaverse aqua, light blue that feels like fresh linen to refreshing turquoise to keep us cool. Metallic colors were another protagonist to intensify the glooming and magic feel of the season.
Overall, summer 2023 will vibrate with high-performance vivid hues and grounding, more pigmented tones. The market is seeing monochrome outfits (508 looks and +41% YoY) and bold color blocks increasing +147% compared to SS22, which manifests how individual color properties can coexist in one look or bring exciting new harmonies to the silhouette.
