Villain Verve. This SS23 concept foresees design that explores a sleek look of female fighters to appropriate the current doomsday moment. The crisis, war and the upcoming recession release anxiety, frustration and rebellion. Drawing on those feelings and previous season’s racing and dominatrix themes, SS23 is proposing a sexy villain silhouette for empowered women. Representing ownership of self, body and destiny, such dramatic and impactful looks are appropriated even for daywear styles. With a vampy undertone, seductive cut-outs, motor-elements, buckles, belts and straps are all translated into strong yet clean silhouettes. To strengthen this distinctly powerful notion, early signs of 80’s influences are coming through. We can see extravagant hoods, bold shoulders, hourglass waistlines and shiny materials for the theme. Exploring hardware is essential and mixing lingerie with men’s tailoring is balancing out the strong gender notions. About the color harmony, a large number of intense blacks is accompanied by a darker purple and passionate red to capture the ready-to-fight spirit of this trend. From YSL to Monot and Heliot Emil to Versace, the summer eclipse look is all-around for SS23.
