The Pre-Fall 2022 shows have shown a distinct preference for cabincore-themed design. The autumnal story proposes an evolution to the pandemic’s cottage core trend and takes it to a more authentic and practical level. Its inspiration of woodsy landscapes suggest a cozy retreat from urban life, busy schedules and intense workdays, as life is returning to a new normal. Cabincore feels more tangible and versatile than its dreamy predecessor, yet it maintains its rustic and countryside appeal. The look is able to add a sense of creativity to mundane everyday items by combining almost ill-matching pieces in a pursuit to express personality. With re-purposed and nostalgic elements, consumers are able to fuse old and new items into a trendy aesthetic now. Trying to balance feminine and masculine elements and to integrate joyful color hues is crucial for a successful cabincore story. This design trend is a story about the extra layer: with a vest or a poncho to boost outfits in infinite ways. At the same time, the versatile and transeasonal character of the layering look addresses environmentalism through a more mindful attitude towards consumerism. The strong focus on outdoor and nature, which is embedded in the theme, surfaces camouflage designs again. Such prints add a contemporary edge and simultaneously intensify the forest-ready style with an increase of solid +22% from the last year. Denim (+57%) and knitwear (+20%) that build the foundation of a lumberjack-like aesthetic also show significant growth this season and validate the relevance of the trend for next seasons.
