With a more liberated attitude towards the body and nudity, the idea of bringing undergarments to the surface had offered a sensual twist to fashion over the past season. This trend is now facing an updated and more digital version: X-Ray prints. Such new prints have certainly been popularized with the recent Gaultier Y-Project show, while upcoming designers have already pursued the look across social media. X-Ray prints are ready for the metaverse. They are similarly erotic and daring as their lingerie predecessor, yet less dreamy and nostalgic. A distinct digital edge mixes with fun and a solid amount of body positivity for the fashion-forward print design. Full-body silhouettes offer a statement option with jaw-dropping potential, while smaller, almost key-hole vision effects are adaptable for more commercial pieces. However its interpretation, the desire to liberate the body is growing, becoming more and more visible and suggesting to drive serious societal change.
