SS22 Runway Top Trends

Overwhelming Vibrancy

The Spring/Summer Fashion Month closed in Paris with another round of spectacular shows. Partially physical, both rising talents and established designers have wowed the fashion crowd with new looks and trends this season. Exploring new formats and themes, the shows of fashion’s travelling circus seemed bolder and better than ever. This past month, a lot of young talent and upcoming designers took their opportunity to present fresh ideas and infuse the industry with a much needed push into new territories. While the industry is still trying to cope with the impacts of the pandemic, both economically and mentally, we can follow the first paths to pivot us forward.

This designer quote underlines the ethos of this SS22 season with its strong perspective on a renewed industry. Value shifts on inclusivity, sustainability and technology have long-lastingly impacted fashion. Hence, more diverse sets of models, more conscious approaches to runway shows and more surprising uses of digital animation and distribution have been visible for SS22.

Overall, the overarching tenor celebrated the gleeful return to normality with post-lockdown optimism. Vibrant colors, creative layering, couture-like volumes, and touchable textures were some of the dominating features across most presentations. Thematically, the desire to enjoy, show off and have fun seemed most poignant. Bodycon silhouettes, liberating cut-outs and sheer materials altogether aimed at revealing as much skin as possible. Aesthetically, the renaissance of Y2K styles swept in a wave of low-rise bottoms, underwear pieces and dazzling rhinestones, while a return to contemporary minimalism added a spiritual sense of tranquility. Connecting to nature remained one of the most essential subjects to design and put an intense focus on craft and history, which pivoted boho and romantic themes to the surface as well.
