SS22 Footwear Highlights

These shoes are made for dancing!

Spring Summer 2022 is an exciting season for footwear. Celebration and optimism were felt throughout the entire category and reflect the desire to get back into social living. Many designers focused on fresh shapes, energetic colors and creative embellishments to create a look that needs to be shown off. The platform sole has been the highlight of AW21 but for summer, the dramatic look plays out even more efficiently. With platform sandals that give us a disco ready feel or creative wedges, the upbeat look is a key element for SS22 shoes. Similarly lifting us up from the ground, puffed up soles in slides and sandals created a surreal and fashion-forward statement. These volume pieces feel restorative and comforting, while their cutting edge look works well from pool to party as well. Looking towards flats, Mary Janes marked 60s inspired statements and gladiator styles created a more elevated look for a nature-driven outdoors. Not to miss, the strong Y2K influence surfaced a large number of super-pointy, kitten heel styles, ranging from boots to mules. Sassy rhinestone finishings feel emblematic for the bedazzled look, while other more intricate floral finishings create a couture glow for the everyday life.

Transforming Summer Shoes

Those are the most impactful must-have shapes and details within the footwear category from the SS22 shows. With several summer seasons missed-out designers are showing how shoes are back on the radar and this time they seem to be made for dancing rather than walking. While comfort is not compromised, innovative soles are elongating party-ready legs and fanciful trims are adding a celebratory feel. Other classical styles, reinvent heritage fits with a contemporary twist. For SS22 shoes are manifesting as unique elements of storytelling and as keepsake objects of art.
