Resort 23: Design Themes

Vivid Vibrations. Resort 23 is continuing the trend for dopamine dressing and the desire for far-away destinations. Bold spectrum shades and impactful motifs emphasize the energizing design narrative to add a sense of digital exoticism to the season. Vibrant pink, tangerine, lime and hyper blue are building the color foundation of the trend. In juxtaposing matches or in monochrome full-look looks, intense nuances emphasize fluidity as well as sharp outlines. For patterns, rainbow stripes or enchanting blurs accompany dramatic florals to maintain the fun of tropical experiences far beyond high summer periods. The dopamine theme is explored for collections that fit the daring allure of night life, but also create surprises in daywear assortments. Bold blazers, large pants or fluid hemlines enhance the effect of the theme for a boost of energy within such casual ranges.

Lunar explorer. Resort 23 has designers looking ahead, exploring the prospect of an otherworldly future. Louis Vuitton has opened the season with a heavily dune-inspired warrior show and other designers have shown a similar taste for deserted, lunar landscapes shortly after. Layered silhouettes with a more clean utility design, propose updated cargos, long coats and hooded tops. A distinct interest for organic shapes is reworking classic silhouettes with drapes or cutouts and inject the season with a sleek point-of-view. Voluminous, enlarged silhouettes meet with more performing slim-fits for a balanced and versatile look. Futurist accessories are crucial to elevate classic utility styles to that extra-terrestrial spectrum. Further, creative pattern-making and curated details are enriching this new uniform with a sense of fashionability and edginess.

Speed Limits. This season, designers are screaming: ready -set -go! Back to life, we see ourselves buckling up again and getting ready to race. The world that we used to know was strongly lead by competition and the clutter of city life. During the pandemic, consumers have looked towards the gamification of such experiences, exploring the early adoptions of Web 3.0 and the metaverse. Faster, better, stronger – the need to win at whatever cost seems re-contextualized now. The race seems to be less one against the other but all for one-another. Iconic Motorsport attributes, such as leather pants and jackets, helmets and vests are popping up within this context. Details like buckles, straps and studs are interpreted again and adrenaline graphics capturing flames or races are depicted again. While the palette remains dark, highlights of fluorescent or shiny metals are breaking the somber and let energy in.

Moonlight Nymph. As if decoding the mermaid tale in order to explore the unknown depth of our deep, blue oceans, designers take a glimpse at endless, fascinating possibilities. The phantasmagoria of those aquatic landscapes offers a mesmerizing sheen and liquid layer to the season’s looks. Underwater creatures inspire agile, form-fitting silhouettes and introduce gentle fluidity for dynamic and versatile pieces. Diving and surfing inspiration adds an active element to the glamorous mix and alludes to consumer’s growing interest in more adventurous sports. New activities are reaching far beyond the home workout and explore new waves from oceans to digital waters. For colors, a darker marine undertone backs the shiny and refreshing highlights of intense turquoise and clear blues within collections. Dynamic gradations and distinct glitter effects reflect the visuals of light breaking on and underwater to take us out of the ordinary, into more exciting worlds.

Farmstead. For Resort collections, bohemian themes are a timeless design choice. While previous seasons have explored a more crafty and nomadic understanding of Bohemia, Resort 23 takes a deeper dive into folk and farm cultures. Taking us to a ranch, Americana details are reworking both, cowboy and indigenous references. Leather resurfaces as a dominating item, feeling more subtle in earthy gradations of brown now. Less eccentric, but more purposeful, the bohemian concept of Resort 23 is creating a balanced look that oscillates between distinctly feminine and masculine codes to break away from gender bias. Romantic blouses juxtapose slacks and oversized, worn-out pieces in outerwear and trouser categories.

Spiritual recollection. For Resort 23, designers are picking up on the distinct need for spiritual well-being and wellness. A serene state of calm, that includes a mental and physical sphere equally, is obtained by a new focus on a spiritual awakening. For collections, goddess-like creatures evolve, wrapped into minimal palettes and enveloping drapes. Like greek goddesses or other foreign spirits from otherworldly habitats, women are being celebrated for their magical being. Fluid silhouettes flatter female forms, enhancing their unique attributes. Glittering chains or impactful ornaments, made from metals or stones, are embellishing stylized silhouettes now. A natural palette is adding lightness and a pure character to the look, while subtle crochets or openworks are letting light pass through and evoke the charms of hand-made items.

Romantic mythologies. A nocturnal design narrative continues for Resort 23 and adds a gothic anecdote to transpersonal designs. Inspired by an antique romanticism, designers explore the universe of ancient tale, as well as subcultural dreams. Exploring mystic stories and historical art, fashion is looking at the glooming spirituality of our zeitgeist. Corsetry elements and indulgent or opulent materials add a couture spirit that is encountered with a more street-appropriate, nonchalant feel. Reworking gothic themes in a feminine yet fresh manner seems key here. Design maintains a seductive touch, tapping into dark phantasies with sheers and lingerie elements and appropriates the narrative for daring party looks or sensual occasion wear.

Exploring & Expressing

During periods of crisis and change, consumers are collaboratively seeking for security. Holding on to tradition or reaching for a new meaning by turns towards the future and the spiritual might induce a sense of hope. For Resort 23, designers have been influenced by those drivers. As seen above, the design concepts that have developed over the shows all show a fascination for new possibilities and an emphasized sense of being.
