FW23: Patterns & Prints

Inspired by near and far. From a quantitative point of view, prints have decreased by -14% in visibility and patterns by -8% during FW23 fashion shows.
This season, the new minimalist business look is proposing a range full of essentials  for a timeless and long-lasting wardrobe. Taking inspiration from the repertoire of traditional classics, this seasonal direction is taking prints and patterns back to seasonless styles.  Tailoring checks, pinstripes, black & white graphics and polka dots are the strongest direction, but not without stupefying interpretations. Flowers are decreasing leaving space for interesting, indefinite abstracts, reminiscent of erosions or new camouflages, bringing materiality while remaining highly commercial. Nostalgia is hidden into bucolic flowers, reminding tapestry or historical interior. In the same vein, the citation of ancient and classical techniques such as ikat, moiré, dévoré are noteworthy. Digital fascination is always well present. As distortion of reality, interpreting tachist or floral motifs, all rather blurry and watercolor style; and in the other hand, photographic prints are playing trompe l’œil on garments. The season’s biggest challenge will be reinterpreting classic, evergreen motifs with a contemporary twist in order to know how to arouse the buying impulse in an age of understatement.

Fashion Weeks Print Recap

Giving the concrete and reliable information you need, this report has been built mixing qualitative and quantitative insights to help you spot the right trends and maximize the success of your collections. Our team has done the hard work of applying expert knowledge on millions of data collected by our algorithms across the fashion weeks of New York, London, Milan and Paris.

The number of looks on the left express the trend’s visibility and its future magnitude. The percentage on the right is the index of growth, which is the variation in percentage compared to the previous FW22 shows. The growth index is showing the evolution of the trend year on year, so the higher percentage, the newer the trend. But remember, novelty is not necessarily synonymous with safety. The graph in the center displays you an overview of the trend’s behavior over the last three season, showing how we rely on Livetrend’s historical data to understand how trends are evolving and provide accurate forecasting.
