FW23: Colors

FW23/24 will intensify the rebirth of society and transform the changes that consumers have encountered into new foundations of their existence. Diverse lifestyles will encapsulate a deep sense of community that reaches beyond humans and builds on an explorative attitude towards nature to inter-connect existing systems. After consumers started to rely on dopamine dressing for psychological color epiphany, AW23 will add more substance to those enriching shades to provide a more authentic spectrum. Strong colors will reveal meaningful universes for in-depth, timeless palettes. This important shift towards meaning and authenticity marks a new era for fashion colors that is rooted in the core of human existence. Livetrend’s Color Forecast for FW23/24 encompasses a diversified palette, which plays on new swampy darks, regenerative pastels, intense bold colors, warming shades, and futuristic tints. Versatile colors meet hyper-contemporary hues: classical color shades are meticulously selected for a trans-seasonal base while new tones align with the appeal of our zeitgeist.

Swampy Darks

Dark Abysses. For FW23, sustainability will be a key driver when choosing color hues, especially for dark tones that will be evermore relevant for the next season. Since black is one of  the most polluting colors for the environment, considering alternatives will generate a whole exciting spectrum of false noirs. The new palette relates to the mysterious darks of nature. A nocturnal, almost supernatural garden of anthracite, petrol blue and intense foggy gray will offer an innovative take on nature-powered darks. Blackish shades grew enormously over the past FW season, creating new moods of villains and endearing creatures. Despite their strong narratives, the eco-friendly components will generating a beautiful dialogue between nocturnal nature and unknown abysses for a more appropriate womenswear range.

Blue Spectrum

Atlantide. For a long time, blue shades have been considered merely as a staple for fashion collections and commercial cohorts, but aquatic moods are embedding the color into the fashion spectrum again. The deep unknown of a meta-ocean aesthetic is giving navy blues a very deep note to substitute black as a more sustainable option. At the same time, lighter shades of blue are enriched by cool gray nuances for a contemporary, icy touch. For the necessary punch, intense medium blue is feeling indulgent and alludes to precious stones and royal nature. This exciting color range allows very sophisticated combinations and balanced palettes. The glacier notes are also suitable for fabric effects, ranging from glossy surfaces, textures to shimmery iridescences.

Digital Pastels

Restorative Zen. The restorative nature of subtle colors is commonly related to serene spaces that resonate a Zen and peaceful ambience. Pastel tones are set to nurture and restore our soul with their calm, desaturated hues and a distinctly soft lightness. Over the past few seasons, spirituality evolved on a different level and became an integral part to consumers. Today, digital worlds are not merely connected to hyper-bright dynamism, but aspire to become a mindful oasis for mental wellbeing. Digital pale tints are now evoking slow fluidity and levity. FW23 will embrace such a new approach to pastels, empowering their healing power in the otherworld, conferring them with contemporary allure.

New Femininity

Intense Passion. Over recent years, under the influence of a new female movement, the narrative around feminine colors rectified the power of pinks and its shades again. Refreshing more powerful red and pinkish colors as a symbol for strength is providing a provocative base for female power-dressing. The narrative around frivolity, devaluating pink shades, belongs to the past and is renewed with a proud appreciation of the colors. AW23 will engage consumers in a chromatic celebration of distinctly feminine shades and depict the new connectedness for the body, deep emotions and sexual liberation. Selected notes of seductive burgundy, intense red and sugary pink powerfully combination a new kaleidoscope mood to strengthen the female identity.

Algae Microcosm

Off-Greens. The interconnection of environment and ecosystems has become of huge interest over the years, both to better understand our biosphere on a spiritual level, and to preserve what seems so fragile and in danger due to the climate crisis. Nature is influencing our color choices, drawing references from our surroundings. Evolving the related explosion of greens, AW23 sees a new, less-obvious approach to green color selections. More studied, the planet-centric approach will be pushing the limits of natural staples and dive into less obvious parts of our planet. Swampy greens or almost digital chartreuse will be able to translate a nature narrative with more intellectual depth and exciting color opportunities.

Solarium

Golden Hour. For FW23 season, warm tones will remain to nurture the should of consumers. Moving beyond our own earth to another spectrum, primal notes will draw a universe of intense sands, dusty soils, lava falls, clay and new minerals. Classical tones see a re-interpretation through a martian lens, that deepens the natural tints of our world. The beauty of grounded yet vivid shades will create a dialogue that is equally energizing as it is soothing. Warm color combinations will not only rely on bright tones, but side with a more primal natural palette.Vegetables, roots and fruits would can offer new dyeing techniques and gentle alternatives that suit the chromatic stories.

Purpleland

Lilac Liberation. AW23 will be indubitably marked by the presence of lilac notes on the fashion market. More futuristic twists evolve the notes of purple and blend into augmented nuances. Balancing cool tones such as the Very Peri, the elected Pantone color of the year for 2022, with deep jeweled shades of purple and vivid viola hues, is generating a marvelous palette to restore liveliness in our sense of being. This mix of holistic components and  digital elements will become more crucial for future seasons adjusting colors to new consumer lifestyles and desires. Digital lavender will remain as a staple, but overall AW23 will see lilacs depending, rooting them in more saturated and jewel-like nuances for a sophisticated and less naive approach to emerging new worlds.

Chromorama

FW23 proposes a versatile color palette with shades for various occasions that respond to an appetite for new, intriguing twists on the staples. All the shades selected build on this dualistic nature and fit into traditional color combinations as well as innovative harmonies. Fresh shades give this palette an energized look to be played safely with a parsimonious approach on color mixes or to design the statement piece of the season. Wisely selected by the Livetrend experts and based on the data-driven insights available, this color range aims to include, instead of excluding, the communal consumer of AW23 (all gender, age etc included). Each hue responds to being coherent with cultural and social changes, taking into account sustainability and innovation and considering the evolution of colors over previous seasons. This flexible spectrum will enhance future fashion experiments for fall winter season and enable beautifully nuances experimentations!
