As the world re-emerges to unfold in more considered and mindful ways, women are beginning to celebrate themselves, their uniqueness and their imperfections. In a world that used to be dominated by unhealthy beauty ideals and standards, a new generation of females is enhancing what makes them different, instead of polished by filters. Designers are grasping onto this feeling through more philosophical design interpretations of those Neo Venuses. The visible allusion to nudity, womanhood and myth has shown to be a significant design theme for various designers this season. Pioneered by up-next creatives, including Supreya Lele, Nensi Doyaka and Elena Valez, the concept of undressing and of shedding women out of their ideal-doomed skin, is marking a milestone for femininity.
Slightly deconstructed or via luscious drapes, brands are approaching the female silhouette to re-interpret form and shape. Fluid materials in translucent sheers are giving place to narratives of a woman’s body – not covering-up, not hiding. Lingerie elements, including corsetry and lace, are crucial to extract the hyper-femme softness that is embedded in the theme. At the same time, cut-outs and a confident body-conscious fits introduce a feeling of empowerment. The balance between these two opposites – softness and power – defines those contemporary women and offers a diverse and intellectually complex statement on femininity in 2022.
