FW22 Denim Updates

Denim on Denim

A/W22 has picked up on the denim hype with 422 looks featuring the material along the runway shows. While the trend remained stable, the material itself was set to experimentation and invention and felt more intriguing than ever.

“We want to make more handcrafted pieces and make them locally, out of whatever we have at the factory,” – Glenn Martens.

This designer quote underlines the potential of denim to explore more sustainable practices. With an ethos of redo-and-mend, designers proposed patchwork styles or other finishings that can also be applied to overstock denim to tackle the industry’s issue of waste and landfills. Since denim used to be a distinct material during the 2000s, iconic product of the period are returning: long skirts, low-rise styles, cargos and corsets all resonate a distinct retro vibe. With rhinestones and shiny finishings the look is even more vintage and speaks to young consumer groups that show big interests into such looks.

Fashion Denim Trends

According to Livetrend’s data, these are the denim updates and mainstays that emerged from the recent FW22 shows. This season there are not as many finishing novelties, as there are denim versions of iconic styles. From denim lingerie to low-rise baggy and cargos, the segment focuses on newer, Y2K-inspired shapes, more than textile treatments. While patchworks and printed versions are still around, glossy finishes and rhinestone updates appear to impact the season more.

Below each trend, you can find the index of growth compared to FW21 on the left and the Livetrend Stamp (legend on the right). This indication will help you to translate the data on the FW22 trends more easily and set on the right trends for your audience.
