FW22: Atticouture

The A/W 22 shows have continued the mix and match aesthetic as the result to a plurality of styles fused into something entirely new. With an open-minded take on the definition of taste, designers have shown how multiple stories can coexist and even enrich one another. The most prominent trend seeming to combine elegant and preppy archive pieces with bold leisure elements into a new Atticouture dress code. The anything-goes mindset mixes female and masculine dressing, volume with structure and evening with streetwear.

The continuity of thrifting and vintage curation strongly feeds into the theme. Leading fashion houses, from Gucci to Cavalli, Vuitton and Prada are demonstrating how a slightly ironic take on playing dress-up offers a new silhouette of layering and bold expression. Color, material and pattern clashes are inherited with an element of sophistication through curated and intellectual harmonies. As consumers demand more versatility within their wardrobes, the look promises to take garments from one season to the next, even from one generation to another. Endless styling opportunities dive into deep self expression and introduce an overall lightness, child-like freedom that takes away from those tumultuous years.

The layering look is gaining traction and its relevance across AW22 runways is manifesting the current mix-and-match trend. Mixing patterns, colors and distinctly masculine and feminine elements are contrasted to translate a story of opposites that is able to balance the various paradoxes of our zeitgeist. The trend takes an interest in classical animal prints +14% or classics, such as gingham +110%, to rephrase the archives in a more liberated manner. The anything-goes look comes along asymmetric skirts, +11% and cropped styles for jackets +24%, which incorporate a distinct redone and personalized look. Clashing dressed-up prep and streetwear styles is key here and proposes us with versatile and experimental looks for the next fall season.
