For FW21 the outerwear category accounted for 6,3% of global assortments. This season, outerwear performed above average with 57% out-of-stock rates for coats and jackets. More precisely, outerwear products went out of stock within an average of 45 days. Overall, the category has shown a sensibility for consumers’ desire for reassuring properties and a more pronounced fashionability.
Leading the range, casual tailoring coats are composing 43% of the mix. Outdoor jackets represents 31% of the assortment showing leather and shearling style, meanwhile the shaket stays as a mainstream big trend.
Another stand-out style of the winter season are quilted coats and puffers, taking nearly 10% of the outerwear range. Oversized, voluminous style contrasted the cropped style, at waistline or even shorter.
Talking about volume pieces, the fur coat has shown to be the best commercial trend across FW21 outerwear.
Other category highlights include the vest that contributes to 3,9% of outerwear and the poncho for 2%. Both styles are ideal for high-demand layering looks. Such sleeveless outerwear grew by +2,97 PTS this year and performed the best in terms of out-of-stock rate, with 80% of styles being sold-out after an average of 42 days.
The taste for versatile and functional pieces is also demonstrated by utility designed parkas, accounting for 2% of the range. Practical and outdoors-ready properties, classical looks and stylish layering pieces are the top trends for the category across FW21 collections.
