Worn by French and British fishermen since the 17th century, this vest owes its posterity to James Thomas Brudenell, Count of Cardigan, who became a hero in 1854 after a legendary charge during the Battle of Balaklava. In the 1920s, Coco Chanel confirmed its elegance by associating it with her women’s suits. So it is for its iconic unisex charm that the designers have taken this piece back for the winter of 2020. Small and large volumes, short or long, this garment fits into the FW20 wardrobe. Definitely the star piece of the Dolce & Gabbana collection, where you can find a lot of inspiration. Accessorized with jewels, playing with the volume of the sleeves, many designers have opted for the jaquard or printed version like Fendi, Missoni, Miu Miu, Palm Angels, Balmain.

The strong patchwork trend is also influencing the knitwear.
We detect the return of intarsia and jacquard sweaters (+60%) that mix patterns as for the warp and weft. Geometries are very fashionable this season so here are some interesting examples in these images. Sacai, Erdem, Monse, Missoni, Chloé to name a few interesting references.

Last but not least, the knit dress. Rather minimalist with ’90’s accents, this tunic dress plays on essentialism and femininity. We were seduced by Proenza Schouler’s dresses, which in their destructured concept let graphic and sensual cut-outs appear. Also very interesting are the double dresses by Bottega Veneta, with their double colors and fringes.
