On a mission to dress for ourselves and to enjoy it, designers have explored the limits of self confidence and tastes this SS22 season. Their dive into 2000s archives, an era that has been dubbed as tacky and tasteless, brought fresh enthusiasm to polarizing aesthetics. Previous seasons have already begun to explore nostalgia for the 2000s, an era of fun, sexuality and flip phones. The continuous growth of millennial throwbacks is mainly caused by TikTok and Gen-Z who long for a period of fun and spontaneity. Cargo-pants, tight cardigans, low-rise flares and mini-skirts are considered as some of the season’s essentials. With a favor for bubblegum pink color ways, rhinestone embellishments, butterfly details and flounces on even shorter hemlines, interpretations of flashback looks feel more realistic than ever. The shows caused déjà-vues of Britney, Christina and Beyonce on MTV and pumped up the volume for louder looks. Flashback must-haves balance both themes of seduction and sport for a youthful, party-ready feel – set to stand out on screens and in real life.
