Fall22 Menswear Analysis

The Global Assortment

Analyzing the current season, Livetrend can highlight the most important product trends to help you adjust your upcoming season. The global assortment shows the right balance of leisure and city-wear. More than half of the novelties include t-shirts and pants, that can be worn from casual to formal, combined with a blazer or bomber. The academia look, from preppy to grunge style is dominant in the first seasonal deliveries. However, the classic “back to work” offer is not missing, now with cool formality that adjusts to the hybrid work of physical return to the office and smart-working for a consumer who does not want to renounce to comfort.

Outerwear

For outerwear, a trend sees jackets taking over from coats, of which only half of the FW22 quantity was delivered on e-com – but deliveries may have been shifted to be more “in season”.
On top of outerwear is the bomber, taking the first place with more than 20% of the assortment and confirming an announced trend.
In second position, puffers are taking up an average 16% of the range and classic down jackets show growth in visibility, especially in markets such as Italy, Eastern Europe, Russia and Asia.
This early season, vests have stolen the place of the trench coat, accounting for 3% of the product range above the trench, currently low in visibility.
Livetrend can highlight a strong return of windbreakers in the July and August deliveries. New sports habits of consumers, from trekking to cycling, make this piece a new collection staple and open up for new hybrid interpretations for the next seasons.

Trousers

For pants, the first deliveries focused on back to work/school themes, so data shows tailoring pants raising by +81% for men. But let’s focus on the most interesting pieces that were already announce to be relevant for the season.
Since summer, cargo pants are growing in visibility and are have an impact on denim, where multi-pocket cargos seem to be the trendiest style for younger customers. For men, the cargo has not reached its peak as it has for women, so the style comprises potential for next seasons.
Bermudas are still relevant in current fall deliveries, creating a cool 2000s skate look and adjust to changing climate patterns. From Gucci to Palm Angels, integrated in tailoring or urban active styles, the Bermuda manifests its spot in a fall wardrobe.
The straight leg is an establish trend. Straight denim had its peak in March and ever since remained a strong trend with good commercial returns. On the opposite, skinny and slim fits are on decline. Increasingly, the flared pant is taking over from fitted legging styles, especially showing a big increase in the luxury and premium markets.
For men, the wide-leg and baggy fits are not very visible yet as compared to womenswear, which show a boom of baggy and parachute pants. They are, however, a strongly growing trend for the denim category. The brands targeting a young consumer should be most attentive to this style, due to the commercial appeal of  Gen Z and nostalgic baggy styles.
Another interesting way to interpret the new baggy appeal, is the carrot style, that Livetrend’s data tracked to grow strongly as an early sign, particularly in denim.
