SS23 Men: Jersey & Knit

An ode to summer’s ease.

The Knit & Jersey category is infused with a more put-together character, despite maintaining extra comfortable wearability. Representing on average 45% of the fabric range for SS22, this category is predicted stable for next season. With severals style upgrade, designers can assure that pieces transition easily from one occasion to the next, well adapt for distinctly hybrid consumer dynamics. Feminine attributes make their way into this masculine-ridden category: fluidity and slimmer fits are updating eras of bulky oversize and emphasize that new era of masculinity. Tank tops are predicted to raise in the assortments and are showing an increase of 9% YoY already and accounted for 2% of the product range this season. Looking at search rates, T-shirts are favored in classic white or blue ( both +130% yearly growth), followed by earthy browns +120% YOY and the fashion color orange with +70%. While more dressy details and fits indicate a shift, those reassuring color trends show how new shapes must fuse with toned down, familiar and reassuring color palettes to succeed  commercially.

Not-So-Basics

For next summer designs are looking to extend the set of collection basics beyond the tee and polo. Polos have 12% of category range and show a stable trend curve that is predicted to grow for SS23; while t-shirts, representing 55% of knit & jersey category, are shifting to slimmer fit and stretchy looks for SS23.  At the same time loose styles are adding softness with openwork stitches, light colors or wider trucker collars. Comfort, fluidity and textures are quite important for this product range as well as sheer for the most trendy pieces.
The tank is becoming a new core essential, especially among younger cohorts. Genderless is a big trend and all the unisex pieces are predicted to be a must for the next seasons. At the same time, new masculinity is playing with feminine codes and this is the concept that will help you to renew your basics and best-sellers. More feminine hoodie or cardigan are just a matter of color, print, fit or details. If you want to address the GenZ, don’t be shy with those options.
To keep the sweater vest relevant, SS23 sees graphical approaches with placed motifs or jacquard patterns for the style. Vest will keep small visibility but will remain a styling piece for men’s looks.
Most edgy, yet adding exciting newness, are those active tops, inspired by cycling or surfing culture. Outdoor and performance are infusing everyday  looks and not just by aesthetic, but adding technicality to products and feels.
