FW22 presented a multifaceted woman, who is capable of having distinct and different attitudes. As trends tend to adjust and layer over time, they leave more space for sub-trends to arise. One of the best examples we’ve been witnessing during these past fashion seasons is the mini. The piece was already present in the market 60 years ago. Back then, the mini was the undisputed symbol of social and political revolt and revolution, and it is clear how nowadays the meaning of such a piece has turned into something different. However, the mini look is permeated by meaningful considerations: Miu Miu was the greatest example this season to cut the mini skirt with even lower hems out of what seemed to be a business male pant. The skirt remains a declaration as fashion itself remains a huge vehicle for cultural change. With empowering designs, lots of designers answered the need of Gen Z and Millenials to be represented and to be heard. Today, as during the 60s, young people stand against values that have shaped this world and aim for improvement and change. This is why the iconic feminine garment, the skirt, sets the stage for subversive change. Today’s women feel in charge, feel strong and feel desired. And the season’s skirts reflect that message: daring, comfortable and show-stopping.

For FW22, mini skirts represent the vast majority of the category assortment, with 536 looks and a growth of +34%, this piece offers multiple possibilities for experimentation: from the preppy minis in tweed to rebellious raw edges and low wait-lines. Clean, fitted lines in the form of pencil skirts or even longer column silhouettes are enhanced with daring slits or feminine drapes and find appreciation amongst designers and audiences. Slightly decreasing but still making a statement, pleats are a piece to invest in: with designs ranging from elegant plissee skirts to academic sporty interpretations for the tennis club.
