FW22 Must Haves: Pants

A Whole New Business

During this FW22 season, the willingness to move past the comfort aesthetic to new elaborated silhouettes was manifested.  To enhance occasion-wear, which was partially subdued by the rise of a new lifestyle of homeworking and restricted  social gatherings, pants are updated with a dressier and fashion-forward notion. The category found designers to balance between business casual aesthetics of  wide legs and soft shapes and the millennial domination of low rise,  baggy silhouettes. The latter is playing with the feminine body: liberating naked bellies as protagonists to claim the women and opposing touches of masculinity for a distinct subcultural wardrobe between the 90s and 2000s. In both cases, a powerful and self-assured woman is at the center and defining the contemporary client.

AW Must Have Pants by Visibility

For FW22 the assortment played on wide leg and baggy silhouettes on a larger, more commercial scale, as well as on skinny fits for the more fashionable and feminine client. Leather pants are still dominating the runways with designs enhancing hybridization between the racing world and the goth aesthetic. Also, the catsuit, an edgy piece that already emerged during the past season, tops with another season of growth due to strong talks around body positivity of recent years.

The trends are presented by visibility (number of look), found on the on top right, while on the bottom left of each trend, you can see the growth index for FW22 compared to FW21. You can also find the Livetrend Stamp (definition in the graphic on the right). This indication will help you to translate the data of FW22 trends more easily and connect them to your audience.
