FW22 Runway Top Colors

Nature to Future

FW22 balances between heritage and future, focusing on great classic tones and introducing new notes for a digital contemporary taste. To replicate hues from the planet, colors played a mimicry role, driving a new nature-centric narrative: earthy and warm tones mirroring the soil, burgundy to recall winery notes, roots, blushy pinks and faded yellows that represent the subsoil, the mycelium, which are our primary life source.

At the same time, fashion is moving into a new digital era, where screen colors consider new horizons for collections in the online world. Saturation plays a key role and by augmenting the vividness of colors, including red and blue, new tones feel boosted and impactful when perceived from our digital devices. Driven by the same otherworldly aesthetic, a cooler lilac note is set to embody the metaverse and its phantasmagoric mood.

Strong colors were key to stress a more vibrant attitude towards better times, with dopamine dressing still influencing numerous collections, offering

enchanting hues for the improvement of mental health.

Valentino made a strong statement out of it, with a full on fuchsia palette that reworked the traditional red of the house into a color that resonates the core spirit of this era.

The overall color set up of AW22  fashion week shows that the intense dopamine dressing of the previous season is giving way to more somber nuances and powdery tones that push for longevity of collections. Dystopian design themes of goth, grunge and dominatrix emphasize the use of intense blacks, while pure whites, grey and neutrals provide a contrasting serenity. Green and pink continue to lead the fashion colors, while blue and purple are announcing their big returns as well. For red, vivid and burgundy shades are key this season.

Fashion Weeks Top Colors

According to Livetrend’s data, here are the top colors from the shows. Black was leading the range and adding to the dystopian mood of the zeitgeist. However, a wide array of contrasting lighter hues were featured to add a sense of ease and hope.
The runways prove that Fall 2022 will be unseasonably bright and retailers can look to color up their best-performing coats, dresses, suit sets and sweaters in fuchsia, red, purple, tangerine, zesty green and cobalt blue. Footwear and accessories can help bring the story to fruition in your assortment and ease more cautious customers into the trend.
More than 1800 looks showed monochrome looks and 32% increase compared to FW21.
Dopamine dressing slightly decreased as pooping colors gave way to black, blue and white or darker colors like purple and burgundy. However the need of neon highlight was still present translating the digital influences on the runways. Fresh green is still the fashion colors with most visibility and bright pink kept the collections lively and positive.
