FW22: Normcore

The Normcore trend has designers feature paired-back power-dressing within their AW22 collections. As designers continue to interpret the style that already performs as a leading aesthetics across social media and e-commerces, it evolves with more and more attention to the detail and more and more timeless appeal. Today’s women seek for these hybrid uniforms that can transform with their dynamic lives and fuse into any season’s wardrobe. New staples now surprise with no-fuzz, non-excitement and almost ironic no-nonsense. Based on tailoring and knitwear essentials, the fashion shows depicted garments for a modern and minimal business casual styles.

The Normcore trend proposes an intellectually reduced wardrobe that integrates masculine features with feminine softness and an overarching casual feel. The look feels unpretentious and unisex, embracing sameness deliberately as a new way of being cool, rather than striving for difference. Compared to the other design narratives of the season, Normcore stands out with ease and simplicity as the alternative to bold and expressive looks of most shows this season.

Magnified mainstays

For A/W22 minimal looks are growing, showing +23% of YOY growth. The trend is lead by toned-down, no-fuzz tailoring to leisure-lead styles. While the casual transformation of the Covid years seems to have come to a halt, sophisticated and elegant minimal themes are explored again. Bold shoulders and dad pants offer a pronounced look, yet seem smoothed out around the edges to maintain a softer undertone. High necks offer reassurance post face-mask and dipped in neutral palettes the Normcore look offers trans-seasonal qualities to prevail throughout several seasons.
