Trend Alert: Whimsigoth

A Witchy Fall Aesthetic

As leaves are falling and nights are getting longer, witch season is starting. Fittingly, #whimsigoth is taking over social media with  millions of views on Tiktok. The style trend embraces romanticism and the macabre in equal measure and was first described as moody, sort of dark, but still weirdly playful. The style embeds multiple influences from  ’70s Bohemia, ’80s goth and Millennium style codes. Those influences fuse into a look of whimsigothic slip dresses, chunky footwear, maxi skirts and cardigans, paisley blouses, corsets and celestial jewels. The leading colors stories of whimsigoth evolve around a kaleidoscope of purples, blues, dark reds, greens, brown, orange or yellow. “The best way to describe it is Sabrina’s bedroom from the ‘90s show Sabrina The Teenage Witch.” Especially with the remake of Sabrina on Netflix, this style is gaining appeal for consumers. The sartorial charm and the blend of dark and feminine make the trend an ideal match to our zeitgeist and fuse aesthetic directions that have already manifested within youth culture.
