Instagram and Tik Tok are currently exploding under the roaring noises of engines, ready to let us enter the appealing universe of motorsports. The biker trend, comes with leather jackets, sturdy boots, armor and protection gear. It has a long history of re-invention. Today’s peak of the style is driven by influential personality such as Kim Kardashian or Bella Hadid and their edgy recent racer looks. Further, singers such as Rosalia promoted her new album Motomami with a full biker outfit. Y2K-inspired trend interpretations add to the rising popularity of the aesthetic as they merge styles of girlies and motorsports: Diesel and MiuMiu showed such combos of micro mini belt skirts in thick leather fabric and low rise protective pants to style the perfect y2k rider. Other luxury brands engage in this game too: Dior styles its classical silhouettes with armor corsets and protective accessories like biker gloves, while Balmain blends its futuristic collection with the same recognizable elements. Most recently, Chanel’s runway propopsed an ode to the motorcycle world with customized helmets. This mania links to the interest for subcultures and uniforms to create a sense of community and belonging. But it also embeds a dystopian component, interpreting the armor as the tortoise shell for protection against the changing outer world.
