Top 10 women resort 21 trends

Perhaps it was the desire to see “la vie en rose” after the covid, which influenced this explosion of pink in the resort 2021 presentations (+62% vs resort 2020). From pink checks at Balmain, fuchsia at Chanel, to bubble gum at Balenciaga, pastel tones at Gucci and colour-block at Valentino, pink has not finished its word.

Wide-leg jeans

We had already pre-announced the trend and the 2021 resorts were confirmation that jeans have been caught by size mania as well. Jeans are becoming more and more unavoidable and continue their upward trend, but the real novelty are the wide legs like at Gucci, Giambattista Valli, Chanel, Dior and Victoria Beckham.

Gingham & Plaid

The check trend is not over yet and continues to evolve in a rather bicolour direction, a new interpretation of gingham. Interesting softs and feminine versions at Altuzarra, pop pastels at Balmain and Gucci, but also the more classic tweed versions at N21 and Chanel.

All-over Print

How to catch the attention of friends, followers, and fans on social media? With a full body of dizzying prints. Moschino, Valentino, MSGM, Gucci and Burberry  will have you covered from wrist to ankle in neon florals, tie-dyes, checks and stripes.

Statement sleeves

Yes, again! We didn’t get tired of it. The oversized volumes remain up-to-date and one of the expressions most loved in recent seasons by designers, but also by consumers, are the puffed sleeves. Exaggerated, lamb legs, balloons, they embellish tops, shirts, dresses, jackets and coats.

Slightly growing from FW19 to FW20, lillac is still one of the favorite pastel colours of Resort 2021. From Bottega Veneta to Versace, italian brands love it the most. To be used on the more edgy pieces to get the coolest effect.

Resorts are not full of novelties, but they often rely on very commercial items. That’s why buyers love pre-collections. This season, even more than ever, does not reveal any unexpected colours. Indeed green persists as one of the bold touches at Valentino, MSGM, Balenciaga, Gucci, Balmain…

Tailoring Bermudas

The bermudas blazer combo is back in vogue for summer 2021. The tailoring trend becomes more décontracté worn with bermuda shorts. The index of groxth compared to Resort 2020 is 171%. While for the youngest women, the blazer continue to be worn with cycling trousers, for the others, the pantsuit is cut just above or just below the knee.

A piece that continues to be an edgy trend, but which keeps gaining ground is the combat aspect. In fact, cargo trousers had already peeped out in the past seasons, but they continue to be interpreted rather creatively and the utility look, with pockets, is also another trend sign that suits today’s urban context. Pictures above are from Dsquared2, Off-White, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.

The total knit look isn’t new, but it is right for homebound times. A step up from sweats, knit pairings from Prada, Jil Sander, and The Elder Statesman offer plenty of cozy options for staying in. The evolution of this trend for more remarkable pieces is the handmade look, flirting with crochet style as seen at Dior, Double J, Valentino and Alberta Ferretti.

Statement Pieces

The resort looks have always been less about experimentation or provocation and more about delivering what customers want. But now this is more true than ever. Here, there are simple knit house dresses, pastoral dresses that draw on a #cottagecore look, a series of intricate necklines that look good on Zoom, and even some evening dresses, for those hoping to have reasons to dress and go out soon. In any case, the most eye-catching idea is a full body of can’t-look-away prints—all the better to catch someone’s eye on social media..

“In the darkest moments creativity is so key,” said Bottega Veneta’s Daniel Lee, “It’s about making clothes you can’t find in other stores,” Lee continued. “Otherwise what’s the point?” Maybe, in the end, innovation will be the most salable thing of all.
