SS 2021: Must Have Styles

Challenged by the lockdown, travel bans and new emotions, designers have presented very different collections for the next Spring/Summer season. Themes vary between nostalgia, minimalism and escapism. The boundaries of creativity have been pushed, while creators needed to simultaneously start reflecting on the purpose of garments and on the value they propose to the customer. For the first time in a long time, these looked like clothes that are meant to be worn. The collections were something more thoughtful and realistic this season.

Analysing runway collection, our data highlights that 25% of global outfits were dresses. Then comes tailoring. Another stable trend, which does not seem to be fading even when compared to the sportswear and homewear. The comfort of the trousers certainly overrides the femininity of the skirts. In fact, the trousers are surely one of the most important pieces for SS21. 12% of the collections are represented by tops, denoting the increasing importance of volume and patterns to enrich conference call framing.

Going down in detail, this season, driven by dreams of far-off vacations, marks the return of the Bermuda and the Tunic on Pants-Style. Cropped Tops and Bralettes continue to mark their position as a wardrobe-staple and  the extra-short Culotte-Shorts is bringing the beach-promenades to the home.
At Livetrend, we identify the large trousers as the must-have of the season and specifically wide-leg denim as the hottest fit for the jeans, which is answering to consumers’ need for comfort. Not to forget, tracksuits and their various interpretations from toned-down Jogger-Style Pants to high-end one-piece combinations, as seen at Stella McCartney, are big on the radar for SS21.
