FW20 Runawy Colour Analysis

Analyzing data of the global colour palette presented during the fashion shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris, it is important to note that colours are definitely importants. Globally bold colours raised +19% since last winter and pastels +6%. So interest in strong colours is still a hot trend. Reds, pinks, greens are following each other very closely. Orange and fuchsia are the most decreasing colors with -35% versus FW19 for orange and -42% for fuchsia. Globally pink is also decreasing -14% vs winter 2019 and -26% vs summer 2020. From a chromatic point of view, pink and green were in pole position for SS20 and while pinks fall down, greens keep the average. The reds continue decreasing (-21%). While yellow is keeping his interest and veer towards acids. Surprisingly the colour that rise this fashion weeks has been purple (+41% vs SS20). But the new trendy bold colour is cyan +93% vs FW19, as prefalls collection were announcing. This bright tone is rising while blue are globally decreasing (-38%). Black definitely take the place for dark tones. Designers abandoned navy blue toward dramatic black. Paris and Milan fashion shows were really cutting edge about black. Unforgettable will remain the Balenciaga show, definitely in line with the current events: black and apocalyptic. To add more drama, black has to be worn head to toe. Monochromatic look are growing by 65% from FW19, so this rule also applies to the other colours. Brown and earthy tones are definitely very important this season (+72% vs SS20) and also is beige (+26% vs FW19). To top it off, metallic colours are are still trendy, silver increase 8% while gold 4%.

This colour analysis of the fashion shows allows an objective analysis of the products presented during the principal fashion weeks: New York, London, Milan and Paris. The large masses outline the colors most used by designers and the evolution, compared to previous seasons. This allow to make statistics on possible developments for future seasons. We will certainly adopt brown and earthy colors. We will use beige and grey as neutral colors and wear monochromatic look. Color-block will be still trendy (+48% vs SS20) thank to the beautifull bold colours as cyan, green, purple, yellow,red…One best combo of the season is purple and red. Total black will be edgy and elegant at the same time
