FW21 is not announced to be a season of print, as the focus is mainly put on the tactility of the materials. Nevertheless, Livetrend Technology has been able to track the top print trends that have been spotted on the runway.
If there is one trend that you should not miss this season, consider Geometric prints and graphic patterns. With a subtle nod to 70s interiors and Bauhaus design concepts, hyper-geometric prints are adopted in various ways. We could see chess-checks, polka dots and monogram motifs next to lozenge, which is the highlight graphic print of the season. With a growth index of 180%, lozenge has just entered the market as a convincing early sign trend. The print has been used from the big houses of Valentino and Dior to emerging creatives like Casablanca, Fashion East and Daniel W. Fletcher making it a trend you should not miss for the next season. Another print trend worth highlighting are black and white, yin-yang type styles. Balancing geometrics, bigger placed graphic elements or contrasting dots for an over-all feel, the 95% rate of growth indicate this trend to have a big magnitude for next season.
Arty prints, ranging from hand-painted styles to literal depictions of historic figurative art are gaining momentum as consumers desire to regain their social and cultural life. The more flamboyant print styles of the FW21 shows also give way to trends of more historically-inspired florals, which recall interior textiles and a dreamy nostalgia and 90s/00s animal prints that ignite a sexy spark.
The steady increase of mineral prints (+26%) offers a graphical language for more muted and nature-focused stories, while more abstract digitals are ideal to dress the digitally-native Gen-Z.
What graphic trends to select during a season that focuses on texture instead of print?
Take a look at all the data Livetrend has generated and get inspired by the trends to set up for your next collection!
The print trends have put a main focus on geometric and graphic patterns, as well as some more nostalgic directions. The graphic prints are able to translate the demand for tactility from 3D surfaces to 2D illusions of surfaces, which makes them the perfect alternative for expensive textile treatments. On the other hand, the adaption of nostalgic botanicals and reminiscent recalls of the art world feed into an increasing interest in more intellectual and theatrical stories, that will take us back to culture and social society.
