A fashion-forward move for SS21

The SS21 shows have continued to push the boundaries of creativity and designers have presented a more innovative approach towards garments. Livetrend has tracked the emergence of a Reconstructed Femininity trend, a slightly dystopian take on clothing and underwear. Influencers, emerging labels and creatives have created a new and slightly provocative language that celebrates femininity, sexiness and the form of the body. Through layering and cut-outs undergarments are emerging on the surface. During the SS21 fashion shows we have already tracked 378 cut-out looks in the shows. Combined with a 30% increase of bralettes on the runways, this data supports the new strive for intimacy and the female body.

Reconstructed Femininity takes the bra-trend onto a more edgy and fashion-forward level as an evolution for SS22. Boldness and novelty is created through more provocative cutouts, revealing layering and creative pattern-making. The sexiness of this look is enhanced by strap detailing and sheer materials. With current escapist motifs, these garments also step into fusing a more digital and avatar-like aesthetic with the human body. On a more commercial scale, those details will work for dresses, especially as updates for the little black dress. For this product category we can imagine cutouts in back and front, that reveal or allude to the bra underneath. Digital influencer Lil Miquela is already hooked onto this trend and shows how it funnels into our new phygital realities.
